I/O Pak C-Series
Modbus RTU / Profibus-DP / ASCII compatible

Profibus is an established standard, first introduced in 1989 and represents one of the best-known industrial fieldbus protocols from Europe. Profibus can be used in a very wide range of applications as a multi-application communications link for industrial devices, as well as cell-level communication. The Profibus protocol was originally developed by a committee founded by the German government. The resulting protocol was initially adopted as DIN standard 19245 and was recently adopted as a European Common Standard EC50170. Profibus is used heavily by Siemens as their remote I/O network. intelligent sensor module

Profibus utilizes a non-powered two-wire (RS485) network. A Profibus Network supports up to 126 nodes and can transfer a maximum of 244 bytes of data per node, per cycle. Baud rates are selectable but speed varies with the overall end-to-end network distance. The maximum baud rate is 12Mbps at a distance of 100M (328ft). The maximum distance is 1200M (3936 ft) at 93.75Kbps without repeaters. Profibus connects a wide variety of field devices, including discrete and analog I/O, drives, robots, MMI products, pneumatic valves, barcode readers, weigh scales, transducers, etc.

Profibus I/O
Eurotherm Action's I/O Pak C-Series modules offer exceptionally high performance solutions for process control, machine control and data acquisition applications. In addition to serving as slave I/O devices to a Profibus master, I/O Pak C-Series I/O modules are highly intelligent I/O processors capable of independently performing a wide variety of on/off and PID control functions. Thermocouples, RTDs, millamp current loops, voltages, bridges, pulse frequencies and more can be accurately measured and scaled in a variety of single-channel or multi-channel I/O modules. Failsafe states may be defined for analog and discrete outputs so that controlled equipment may be commanded to a known state upon loss of field bus communications or failure of the associated input channel. Each module contains its own Profibus-DP interface allowing them to be used individually or in groups. Convenient plug-in connectors and bus terminators make the interconnection of modules in an instrument panel a snap.

Analog input channels may be configured for voltage, current, thermocouple, RTD, or bridge inputs. Using sigma delta analog to digital conversion technology, I/O Pak modules deliver up to 0.01% accuracy and 0.003% resolution . Sampling rates as fast as 5 milliseconds may be achieved. The analog outputs deliver 0.05% accuracy and 0.01% resolution.

Digital input functions include status detection, frequency measurement (up to 25kHz), and counters (forward, forward/backward, and quadratured). Digital output functions include on/off and pulse-width modulated control.

I/O Pak Modules are configured using the IOPK-ICP Configuration Software. This Microsoft Windows® based tool is used to define the characteristics of each I/O channel. As the I/O functions are defined, wiring terminals are dynamically allocated. Configurations may be named, stored on disk and downloaded to multiple modules effectively "cloning" common applications. Configuration information and wiring diagrams may be printed to assist the installation and startup process.

Eurotherm Action I/O Pak I/O modules are also extremely well suited to data acquisition applications. Using an easy "drag and drop" technique, our Windows-based Data Logging software (IOPK-LOG1) can be used to retrieve measured or calculated values and to display them graphically or log them to disk. Logged data may be easily exported to ASCII, Microsoft Excel® or Microsoft Access® files for further analysis or archiving.

The Model IOPK-AISKA is a convenient RS-232 to RS-485 converter that simplifies the module configuration process. In addition to providing the serial conversion, it includes an 18 VDC power supply. The IOPK-AISKACBL Interface Cable is pre-wired to pass both the serial signal and DC power from the Serial Converter to the P-Series I/O module

When the RS-485 Profibus or Modbus network needs to be extended beyond the specified length limits or more than 31 nodes need to be installed on a single network, the model IOPK-AIPK Repeater / Converter is an excellent solution. As a repeater, this DC powered, DIN rail mounted module boosts the RS-485 signal allowing another 31 node segment to be added to the network It may also be used as a panel-mounted industrial grade RS-232 to RS-485 serial converter.

The Model IOPK-AIBC Serial Gateway provides Profibus connectivity to any field device that has an RS-232 communications port. Common applications include bar code scanners, weigh scales and single loop controllers.
